Ms. Reyes is a member of the CBS Community and University Advisory Board, whose mission is to assist the Center in transforming the university and society by strengthening Latino/a equity and empowerment in higher education. Ms. Reyes has played an integral role in developing and implementing several research projects with CBS and other WSU Departments. She was a member of the Southeast Michigan Latino Economic Impact Study (SMILEI) Study Group in 2008 which led the development of this research project. This collaboration between Wayne State University’s Center for Urban Studies, the Center of for Chicano-Boricua Studies (CBS)and the Hispanic Business Alliance (HBA) conducted this Hispanic/Latina(o) study detailing the economic contributions and demographic characteristics of Southeast Michigan’s Hispanic/Latina(o) population. Some of the study’s findings have important social and policy implications for our community that we are now working to address.

Ms. Reyes is also the Co-Principal Investigator in other research studies that will examine the dropout rate of Latinos in Detroit, and study the overrepresentation and differential treatment of Latino/Hispanic adults and juvenile inmates within the Michigan criminal justice system. These studies will be conducted in collaboration with Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation, WSU Chicano-Boricua Studies, and the Criminal Justice Department and the Julian Zamora Institute (MSU).
