BestBuy was also a new DHDC partner in 2008. Quite the opposite of the way in which DHDC was introduced to the Lear Corporation, Best Buy sought out DHDC because of an employee who was born and raised in Southwest Detroit and wanted to find a way to “give back” to the community using the Best Buy volunteer culture. The ensuing partnership has been rewarding beyond expectations for all involved. Over the past year Best Buy volunteers have raised over 15K for DHDC through their participation in events such as our annual clean-up day, partners breakfast and gala dinner and, the famous Geek Squad conducted a 2 day computer “break-down and re-build” workshop for 30 middle school students in the Summer Youth Program. Based on the success of the workshop we are now working with Best Buy to fund a full week camp program run by the Geek Squad this summer.
