Lear Corporation
In 2008, through an introduction by one of our Board members, DHDC welcomed the Lear Corporation as a new partner. DHDC encourages our corporate and community funders to come together to develop creative program solutions and learn more about Southwest Detroit’s youth and community through our “Sponsor A Sponsor” Program. The Lear summer academy program for middle school youth is an extraordinary program held at the company’s headquarters in Southfield. Students not only participate in a rigorous curriculum but are also mentored throughout the summer by Lear staff. DHDC facilitated a Sponsor A Sponsor event to introduce Lear to our area schools and the result was that five of our program youth were able to attend the academy last summer at absolutely no cost.
