POSITION TITLE: Director of Fund Development
DEPARTMENT: Administration

Directly Responsible to: Executive Director
General Statement of Duties: The Fund Development Director will provide oversight of, establish and execute a comprehensive, strategic development program designed to sustain and substantially build high-level funding. Responsibilities include corporate, foundation, individual giving programs, grant writing, prospect identification and research, data entry, and database management, donor and prospect relations and communication, and other philanthropic activities.
The Director will work closely with the Executive Director, Director of Marketing & Communication, Director of Finance, Director of Programs and the Board of Directors. They will update and implement a strategic development plan, policies and procedures, and write and update a case statement.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis concentrated in business, marketing, public relations, or related field.
- 3-5 years of experience at the management level and proven success in development.
- Familiarity with fundraising software, Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Experience in soliciting major gifts, corporate and foundation relations, annual fund raising programs, and grant writing. Capital campaign experience may be required. Grant writing ability is essential.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Understanding of the Hispanic community and the issues faced by Latinos in Southwest Detroit. Ability to speak Spanish and knowledge of Hispanic culture helpful.
Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: This individual will be highly enthusiastic, intelligent, personable, creative, hardworking and capable of working with a diverse group of people including senior staff, Board members, corporate CEO’s, community members and volunteers. Candidates should be confident and have a polished professional demeanor. This person should have a proven track record and solid grant writing experience in the area of unrestricted funds. They must have outstanding written and oral communication.
Working Conditions: This is a full-time salaried position. The Development Director will be housed in an office located at 1211 Trumbull, Detroit, MI 48216 and will have a flexible schedule, and work a minimum of five days a week on the standard business days of operation (Monday – Friday) for a minimum of 40-50 hours a week. On occasion, the Development Director will need to travel for business purposes, work on weekends or evenings, or represent DHDC as determined by the Executive Director, at conferences, seminars, award events or galas.
