Día de los Muertos 2025: A Night to Remember in Southwest Detroit
Thank you to everyone who joined us!
Our Día de los Muertos celebration was an incredible success, and it was all thanks to you — our community. Every year, the Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation (DHDC) brings this beloved Mexican tradition to life to honor our ancestors while supporting our local artisans, vendors, and performers.
This year’s event, held on Friday, November 7 at our 1211 Trumbull St. location in Detroit, was a vibrant evening full of color, music, and culture. Families from across the city came together to enjoy delicious food, games, art, and live performances that showcased the richness of our Hispanic heritage.
A Celebration of Culture and Community
Guests enjoyed captivating performances by:
-
Ballet Folklorico Chicanos – bringing traditional Mexican dance to life with grace and energy.
-
Singer Samuel Hernandez – whose powerful voice filled the night with emotion.
-
Mariachi Serenata Ranchera – delivering the sounds that make every Día de los Muertos complete.
Throughout the evening, over 26 local vendors shared their art, crafts, and handmade creations — a true celebration of community entrepreneurship. Indoors, families experienced the warmth of tradition through altars, music, and art. Outdoors, the bonfire and free s’mores added a cozy touch to the cool autumn night.
Why We Celebrate
At DHDC, events like Día de los Muertos are more than just celebrations. They’re an opportunity to:
- Preserve and share our cultural traditions like the ballet folklorico performing a Veracruzano Dance with future generations.
-
Support small businesses and local creators from Southwest Detroit and Corktown.
-
Build community connections through art, culture, and shared experiences.
