In the heart of Southwest Detroit, a new generation of engineers, coders, and tech innovators is rising—and it all starts at DHDC’s Robotics Engineering Center of Detroit (RECD).

The Robotics Engineering Center of Detroit, operated by the Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation (DHDC), is more than a tech lab—it’s a transformative learning hub where Detroit youth explore the world of robotics, coding, and advanced manufacturing in a hands-on, supportive environment.

What Is RECD?

RECD is a cutting-edge robotics and engineering training center designed to ignite curiosity, build technical skills, and prepare students for careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Open to youth across Detroit, RECD offers free programming that connects young people—especially those from underrepresented communities—with tools and training to thrive in tomorrow’s economy.

What We Offer at RECD

Why It Matters

Detroit’s future depends on its youth—and the jobs of tomorrow require strong foundations in technology, innovation, and creative problem solving. But not every student has access to these opportunities.

That’s where RECD comes in.

We level the playing field by providing free access to high-quality robotics and engineering education, especially for Black and Brown youth often excluded from STEM pipelines. We don’t just build robots—we build futures.

Who Can Join?

RECD is open to:

  • Middle and high school students in Detroit

  • Youth interested in STEM, robotics, or technology

  • Students from underserved communities looking to gain real-world experience

No prior experience is needed—just curiosity and commitment.

Join the Movement at RECD

If you’re a student, parent, educator, or community member looking to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. At RECD, we’re not just teaching STEM—we’re creating future engineers, leaders, and changemakers.
