DHDC’S ADULT SERVICES

The Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation offers various adult services. Each service is designed to help individuals learn, grow, and be proper in life. Our adult services include learning English as a second language, housing counseling, financial literacy, and tattoo removal.

Adult Education

English Language Learning (ELL) classes are offered Monday-Thursday in person and online, in the morning and evening. Classes are teacher-led sessions, focused on grammar, reading, writing and speaking (pronunciation). GED classes are held at DHDC by Wayne State University’s Another Chance program. Specialized case management referrals for students and families are available.

Funding for this program is provided by the State of Michigan

HUD Housing Counseling / Financial Literacy

Counselors certified by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Department provide housing-related group workshops, one-on-one counseling, and referrals to outside agencies. Many families in our community do not seek traditional financing for purchasing homes, and there is a great need for housing counseling within Detroit due to the economic downturn, stricter lending guidelines, failing financial institutions, and weakening federal housing programs. Funding for this program is provided by the Housing and Urban Development Department
