We are so excited to welcome Alma as our distinguished guest and Keynote Speaker! She has been a tremendous asset to DHDC and we look forward to highlighting her at our event. Please read below for information regarding her achievements, responsibilities, and background.
Alma L. Crossley was appointed Director for Diversity Initiatives on January 1, 2011.
Alma’s primary responsibility is to favorably position GM as the company of choice for its products and services among diverse communities by promoting, supporting, and leveraging diversity within and outside of General Motors.
In her position, Alma will work to establish relationships with key advocacy groups and consult across various GM functions, including Marketing, Sales, Communications, Human Resources, Supplier Diversity, and Dealer Network Planning to achieve Diversity business goals.
A veteran with over 25 years experience, Alma has held various positions within the General Motors’ field and home office organizations. Previous responsibilities include GM Director of Minority Dealer Development, HUMMER National Promotions Manager, Diversity Manager for the Hispanic American segment, Local Advertising and Marketing Manager (Chevrolet-Oldsmobile-Cadillac) in Minneapolis, MN., Zone Manager (all GM Divisions) in Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo, MI., North Central Regional Marketing Manager (Oldsmobile) in Detroit, MI., Northeast Region Field Executive (Oldsmobile) in Tom’s River, NJ., and Western Region District Sales and Service Manager (Oldsmobile) in San Jose, Ca. In her different positions, Alma has acted as a business consultant to Dealership Operations and has developed and implemented various marketing programs and promotions to drive GM business on a National and Local level.
Alma joined GM in 1985 as a General Motors Engineering & Management Institute (GMI) co-op student. During her tenure as a student, Alma gained extensive experience and knowledge from various functions including Strategic Marketing, Product Planning, Public Relations, and Purchasing. Her fifth year thesis was completed in Strategic Marketing for Oldsmobile Division.
Alma earned her undergraduate degree from GMI in 1990, and received her MBA from the University of Phoenix in 1997. Alma was born and raised in Adrian, Michigan, and currently resides in Plymouth, MI. As a Hispanic American, Alma is proud of her Mexican heritage and is excited to be in a position that will leverage her broad experience and diverse background. In 2011, Hispanic Business selected Alma as of the “100 Most Influential Hispanics, “ and in 2012 she was awarded the USHLI Corporate Visionary Award, and selected as a 2012 Latina Trailblazer by Latino Justice.
