DHDC Family & Parenting Services

DHDC ensures that family and parenting information and services are reaching our community, addressing those with limited English and technology access, and connecting them to resources and information needed to address the health needs of their children. Also, especially those exacerbated by COVID-19, including food security and nutrition, mental health and trauma, and asthma due to indoor and outdoor air quality.
During COVID, DHDC staff adapted our programs to address the needs of parents while keeping families safe. We switched to a virtual format and parents were given a laptop and hotspot and were shown how to use the technology and log onto zoom. Staff then delivered activity packets to each family’s home so that they could engage in hands-on activities with their children during and in-between workshops.

SALUD

This program focuses on the challenges immigrant and mixed-status families are facing in this time of extraordinary need while advocating for their access to basic needs such as testing, vaccinations, health care, utilities, and housing.

This includes hosting vaccination clinics and hiring community members as Promotores de Salud (Community Health Workers) who provide culturally responsive health education and outreach throughout the Southwest Detroit community.
